To get that almost end of season crab fix, 2 of us went to PPQ (Clement/25th) last night for an early dinner. The place was empty at 5 when we arrived, and packed at 6:30 when we left.
We ordered the roasted garlic crab, a cabbage/tofu salad, garlic noodles, and washed it all down with Tsing Tao. The bill was $65. with tax and tip. Service was perfect until the end when we were left stranded with greasy garlicky hands for far too long. All the plates had been taken away, they inquired about our dessert preferences, but no one came to deliver the hot moist towelettes to wash up with. It took a good 10 minutes for someone to arrive (after we inquired).
The food was superb! The salad was crunchy, piquant and a bit sweet, with a generous sprinkling of peanuts. A little more mint would have made it the best ever. A very fresh, perfectly roasted, 2.5lb crab came to the table drenched in garlic butter, accompanied by all the proper utensils. The garlic noodles were doughy but toothsome, slippery yet not too greasy and again, swimming in garlic with chopped parsley adding a festive green speck here and there. The noodles cooled off a bit too fast, faster than we could suck all that crab, but they did not congeal and were yummy to the end.
