Pozole in Fresno

PolarBear | Jan 16, 2006 06:01 PM

Nearly gave up on this search after hitting a half dozen places or more, only to hear "only on certain days", "it's seasonal", or "sorry, not today".

Planning on just getting a couple of tacos at a little dive last week, watched a gorgeous looking bowl of brick-red soup being delivered while waiting in line to order. Ordered it and a lengua taco that was OK, but the pozole was superb. It came with chopped onion and shredded cabbage (I was so intent on the broth I forgot to ask for the cilantro) and one of those pre-fab flat tostada shells, but they happily provided a couple of nice housemade warm flour tortillas. The huge hunk of pork was tasty and tender enough to flake off with my spoon.

Not sure if this is the Jalisco style that Dommy posted a recipe for on the HCB (linked below) but I intend to try and duplicate the experience. Well worth checking out. My Hispanic office mate tells me their other food is pretty decent as well, but don't hold your breath waiting for that report, I know what I'll be having.
