I was surprised and delighted to have a delicious bowl of green pozole for lunch today at Centoe Grill in Escondido (http://www.cenotegrill.com/). They only serve it on sundays till 2pm but the waitress said often they'll serve it later if they have any left. I have been a fan of Cenote's cream of poblano soup for some time now and this is my new favorite thing. I would take it over Lourdes chicken soup any day. It was full of hominey, pork, cabbage, cilantro, onion and comes with tortillas. The stock was rich and it had a good (not overpowering) taste of cumin. The portion size is perfectly filling and a great deal at $5.00. I got some to-go since we're suppose to have rain this week. I don't know why they aren't making this a regular menu item - it is leaps and bounds better than their mexican tortilla soup that has some wierd dumpling thing going on in it. Simple, hearty, warm in both spice and temp. I'd be eating my to-go bowl right now ifI didn't have reservations at Cavaillon in an hour! I'm hoping that if more people enjoy it the chef will put it in the regular rotation so if you're in North County go give it a try!
