Need New Pots & Pans - Advice? Good/Bad Brands?

It was requested that I move this over here from General Topics.

The time has come. Back before I knew that Teflon was toxic, I got a bunch of nonstick pans from Macy's. They were pretty good at the time, but that was six or seven years ago, and they're pretty beat up now. I'm a much more serious cook these days, so I'd like to get something nice.

What do you suggest? I don't mind expensive since I can buy things one at a time. I like to cook, but to be honest, I'm not sure I know the difference between all the different shapes and sizes and materials out there for cookware.

Any websites to point me at? Any brands you particularly like or dislike? Any materials you think are superior or that I should stay away from?

I know I want one cast iron skillet, but probably everything else should be dishwasher safe. I tend to cook a lot of sausages, and large soupy things (like yogurt curries) in the gigantic skillet I have.
