Portuguese--Northeast Philly

A Portuguese find in Northeast Philly. Cafe Restaurant Portugala (?) 215-743-8270 is one of those ethnic restaurants you can't believe is nestled at the end of a strip mall, just off of Adams Ave and near the Roosevelt Blvd. The food is superb! This is our fifth visit and each time consistently excellent, hard working (if not always timely) wait staff and very reasonably priced. We've delighted in the endless meal that the paella brings, filled with shrimp, lobster, or chicken, chorizo ($16.00) (choice of meat or seafood), shrimp with green sauce served in a similar huge paella pan with enough for two additional dinners to take home ($14.00), grilled shrimp (about 8 or 9 large shrimp) with garlic lemon butter and lovely fried potatoes($14.00), traditional pork and clams ($15.00), appetizers of clams and sausage, flaming sausage,($9.00) and an array of steak items we can never get to because the other entrees are so intriguing. For Atkins followers, there is a new choice of 10 grilled meats for $20.00 per person which looked delicious. A meal for four with two bottles of wine (vino verte--Casal Garcia)was $100 and each of us took home at least another meal and 1/2. Let me know how you like it. Just before Friends Hospital off Roosevelt Blvd.
