Portland Targets and indulgences

I'll be in Portland next week for four evenings taking husband to VA Hospital PD clinic and staying in that vicinity, "at bottom of the hill" what ever that means! It's been years since I've been in Portland.

I have a small restaurant in Alaska and consider eating out a research project; I like places that serve food similiar to what I produce (great steak, local fish and seafood, NW local ingrediants, all with an italian influence in a local tavern/bistro atmosphere; considered very good in our area by the locals, reccommended highly to tourists) as it gives me a little inspiration in style, presentation, etc. Very trendy places with a high table turnover don't work for us, as husband has PD and eats very, very slow.

Would love suggestions for clean fresh seafood, northwest local ingrediants, steak house & seafood, fresh italian. I believe we'll have an opportunity for lunch out a couple of times also.

From the location we are staying, should we have a car or just taxi? Walking one block is as far as hubby is capable.
Thanking you all in advance!
