Had a second trip to a place up on Sandy Blvd. around NE 67th called Thien Hong. My friend called it Chinese, but they say, "unique & exotic oriental cuisine." Looks like there is Chinese and Thai and other stuff on the menu.
The "pepper salted squid" also called salt and pepper squid is awesome. Really tasty with a light coating and glinting with the salt and sprinkled with the pepper/spice powder. It was perfectly done - not greasy, not over salted - and cooked at the right temperature for the right amount of time - not rubbery at all. I have had this twice and can say it was not a fluke - mmmmm...go get you some, now!
The other things I have had there are also really good. Very tasty moo-shu, good soups - tried wonton and also shrimp with rice noodle, very good curry chicken.
The prices are incredibly reasonable - a large platter piled high with squid - only $7.95! The service is good too.
It was reassuring that as a transplanted Jewish New Yorker I could keep the xmas tradition alive - going out for Chinese food on 12/25!!
