Portland: Round 2: Funky and Spacious

greenidentity | Sep 9, 2015 03:37 PM

Hello! I am taking my 2nd trip to Portland, from my home in Minneapolis (which I also hear is Portland's sister city?) I had a great food experience on my first visit, and I am looking for some recommendations that are a bit more focused this time around. Here is what I am seeking:

-Something funky/offbeat/atmospheric. It doesn't have to be over-the top kitschy, or super wacky. But I have found that many of the standard recommendations are clean, bright, simple...boring. I want something spicy, cozy, ambient, intoxicating...

-Something somewhat spacious. Another trend I see with the more popular places is that they tend to be a bit jam packed, with uncomfortable seating. I like space, and the ability to spread out a bit.

-Oysters and French food are my primary desires, small plates coming in at a very close second.

Any recommendations that fit those guidelines? I admit..I'm a bit of a tough audience. I don't like anything too fussy, nor too simple. Just thoughtful, fun and unique!

All I really know for sure so far is that we are DEFINITELY going to Kachka.
