Portillo's Hot Dogs | Moreno Valley - Riverside County

On the way to the desert, I stopped at Portillo's in Moreno Valley to pick up lunch.

The Moreno Valley location opened ten years ago and is one of two in California.

This was my first time to a Portillo's anywhere.

My 11:15am arrival beat the lunch crowd, as I noticed many customers streaming into the parking lot as I walked back to my car.

No, this is not a dirty diaper but a Big Beef Sandwich, $7.98, ordered dipped with hot peppers and a side of gravy after traveling for almost 90 minutes. Being a novice without the inside baseball knowledge of how to order, I guess it was a mistake to get it dipped if not eating immediately. But we did still enjoy it a lot. Beef was a little dried out, but tender and quite tasty. The gravy and seasonings were distinctly different from the French dip sandwiches we're more familiar with.

The piece of moist chocolate cake, $2.99, was good too with deep dark chocolate richness. What a bargain.

I'm not one who frequents chains or fast food spots, but I liked Portillo's. This was a fresh tasting and big lunch for the price. It's easy to understand why the Moreno Valley branch is so popular.
