I was hungry, on a road trip & had a copy of the pocket sized "Interstate Eateries" by D. G. Martin, published by Our Stare Magazine. China Grove was up ahead, so I decided to try Porky's. The pulled pork sandwich was tender, but skimpy with very little smoke. Less than 5% of the menu is devoted to bar b-q (this gave me pause), the rest of the menu is largely sandwiches, deep fry apps & their "new" salad bar. I'm not familiar with the area, but it felt like the tendency of places that are off the beaten path to try to be all things... The sandwich was adequate but service was quite bad - teens more interested in chat than providing you with a plate, knife, straw, etc. I would not bother trying them again.
I purchased this booklet hoping for good alternatives to chain fast food while on the road in NC. So far my experiences have been very mixed. Has anyone used this booklet? Has it been useful?
