Pop's annual pilgrimage to B. King

Richard Gould-Saltman | Jul 11, 2003 08:21 PM

Chow-pop, now living in a Mexican-food-challenged town in the mid-Atlantic states, but originally a Los Angelino (with fond memories of El Amigo, etc.) makes a point of hitting Burrito King at least once when he visits very summer.

Based on my recent bitter experiences with the Chow-Pup at the Hyperion branch, (see prior posts)I had to warn against it. At his request, I made the additional trek to the Sunset/Alvarado branch, and brought back.

Much better. Machaca, per Pop's evaluation, up to snuff; chicken soft tostada, per me and the Pup, up to the old standard, and not bad even as left-overs the next day.

My theory, based upon my observation of the clientele at the Sunset/Alvarado branch compared with Hyperion: fear. I'd personally be afraid to give the wrong item, or bad food, to some o' those guys, and I'm 6'4".
