poor quality fiestaware - are they slipping, or did i get a bad batch?

last weekend i purchased quite a lot of fiestaware for my new home in a macys.com sale, including place settings, platters, serving bowls, various peripherals, etc. i have been quite surprised by the poor quality. i grew up with fiestaware, but it was of a far higher quality than this. six of the eight dinner plates i received wobble substantially on the table, as their bottoms are not flat. in most cases, if you push one side of the plate down, the other side will lift between 5 and 10mm. there are unsightly (and likely unsanitary, as they will trap foods) voids, dimples, and bubbles on the majority of the pieces i received, one of which in the bottom of a fruit bowl, is actually quite sharp. i've been assured by macy's and homer laughlin that i purchased "first quality" items, not factory seconds or blemishes. macy's has been great about sending me replacements for everything at no additional cost to me. none of the items were damaged in shipping, so this has nothing to do with macy's or the shipper, for that matter... this is just some really iffy stuff coming out of the homer laughlin factory. should i be optimistic that the replacements will be better? or is this just what modern fiestaware looks like now?
