Pongsri in Chelsea

chick-fil-a | Dec 9, 2004 07:12 PM

Per the discussion earlier this week, the new Thai restaurant that just opened on 23rd between 6th and 7th is a branch of Pongsri. It's not delivering until next week, but is available for eat-in and pickup.

Not sure about how all the branches are related, but the menu seems exactly the same as the one on 48th Street. (That means it has all the cheesily-named favorites like "Big Bird's Love Nest.")

Now, on to the chow. After one take-out, it's become our favorite Thai takeout in the neighborhood (narrowly beating the Chelsea Market place). We had the pad Thai, chicken satay, the spicy (very spicy) Chinese sausage salad, and the Bangkok Chicken (fried chicken with some sort of chili sauce). Everything very tasty and fresh and not overly sweet, if not a revelation.

The 23rd Street menu isn't posted on menupages yet, but the 48th Street menu is identical.

Pongsri Thai
165 W. 23d, bet. 6th and 7th
