back to The Pongal

After an excellent lunch buffet there on Thursday, I returned to The Pongal (786 Boston Rd [rte.3A] Billerica, site of the former Masalaa) for the first weekend lunch buffet of the just-opened place. It had even more items than the extensive weekday spread, for $3 more. The place was packed; I was the only goy in the room. The owner recognized me - I may well be their only Anglo-Saxon customer so far. Everything was fresh, well-heated, and delicious. Since they used sliced pieces rather than shaped patties for the Onion Pakoras, it amounted to the tastiest "onion strings" I've ever had. Many of the dishes were things I've never seen or heard of before, but there were plenty of staff around to answer questions. This appears to be a place that offers many items not on the menu. Service was inobtrusive but attentive. I plan to go there on a regular basis.
