Pleasantly surprised at Lupe

Lupe is a California-style Mexican restaurant that others have posted about before. It's at 6th Ave & Watts. I was skeptical of it, a New York City Mexican restaurant and all and not even in an outer borough AND below 96th Street to boot (my reverse snobbery in full force), but I really liked it when I went there a couple of nights ago.

All I got to eat was a green chile burrito, which I was inspired to get because I traveled to New Mexico in July and loved the green chile they have there. The green chile burrito actually took me back to NM a bit (not all the way, but far enough). It had a kick to it, and the sauces they had on the table, in particular the "buffalo" chipotle sauce, was no-joke spicy. The torilla on the burrito was nice, and a good mix of rice, beans, and sour cream, but the spiciness of the chile was the real appeal.
