Went last night for the 1st time & I gotta say some of the bashing appears undeserved here. OK, it was loud and the service was a bit rushed but we were there during prime time after 7:00 PM on a Saturday night!
My lady friend had the Murg Tikka Makhanwhala which she enjoyed but it was a bit on the hot side (not temperature, as in spicey). But, the cucumber based yogurt side did a good job of cleansing the pallette of some of the heat.
I decided to try 2 appetizers and the lentil soup (Mulugtawny), which after a few stirs with my spoon, I found delish! We ordered roti bread as a side and it was great for dipping in the soup as well as in the little side of lentils they offer. It (the roti) was a little on the greasy side but not enough to ruin the taste.
My 1st appetizer was the idli, served steamed. By itself, it is of course not very flavorful but when dipped in the lentil-based side or the coconut-based side that it comes with, it comes to life!
I also devoured an entire masala dosai (HUGE), which tasted great w/ the same 2 sides that came with the idli. Yum.
Oh, and the pitcher of water was a really nice touch...
I went in w/ quite some hesitation but all-in-all, we both were rather satisfied w/ our meal. We'd probably go back but not before we finally try Spicy Mina's!!!
Oh, and if it wasn't so darn difficult and filled with traffic and lights, we'd hit the JH/Woodside area much more than we do. We come from the JFK area so there's no real convenient way to get there as Queens Blvd. blows and the BQE is just not accessible. There's just the old standby Italian places in our part of town...(yawn)...
