A pleasant surprise at lunch today...Charlie's!

JB | Feb 24, 2005 04:32 PM

A friend and I were shopping at the Chestnut Hill mall today and she suggested that we go to Charlie's for lunch. I went along, not expecting much, as my memories of the place are 20 years old, having last gone there with my mother back when the calibur of shops at the mall was far less swank than today (remember Spencer's gifts anyone?).

What a pleasant surprise! During a very busy lunch hour, service was superb, attentive, and prompt but not at all rushed. Better service than I had at Blue Ginger last week!

Nicely brewed iced tea for friend and I had orange juice which was...freshly squeezed!! We felt a touch of spring on this dreary day.

I ordered the outstanding steak and spinach salad. Fresh, large baby spinach with roasted red and yellow peppers, red onion, and a gorgonzola/balsamic vinaigrette. On top was a beautiful cut of steak, cooked perfectly to medium. The steak was not aggresively seasoned so as not to compete with the vinaigrette. Friend had a Hamburger which she reported as perfectly cooked to her specification, and french fries which are of the crunchy on the outside, pillowy on the inside, hand-cut variety.

The bill including drinks came to around $25. Has anyone else been here recently? I'd love to know of others' experiences.
