Gorgeous summer night on Sauvie Island. Dining at long tables in the same field from which most of the ingredients on the table have been harvested is a glorious experience.

What made this meal, though, was the spit-roasted pig. Omigod it was good. Especially the cracklins. I didn't know I was a cracklins junkie. But I ate two or three--crunchy, salty, just a little fatty--then had to have more. They brought out a bowl. I consumed several more strips. This stuff is like crack.

Don't want to think about the health. Kind of like turkey skin at Thanksgiving. The digestive distress was worth it.

I know these dinners are all sold out this year, but if you have not attended one, try to go next year. And if you have been to one (or more), I'd be interested in hearing if you enjoyed yourself as much as I did.
