Sweet glory hallelujah - plate lunch is now available minutes from my office. Replacing the La Salsa (I will miss their Chili-Lime Salad) at 2094 Tustin Ave is the newly opened Waikiki Hawaiian Grill. Went in for the first time today to sate a long held Spam Moco jones. The decor is appropriatly, horribly done with sponge painted walls and dime store paper decorations randomly placed and barely held by scotch tape. Three Plus wafts over the sound system. So VERY perfect. The portions are, naturally, gut-busting. The macaroni is mayonaissy, the rice is sticky, and I'm a little woozy from the salt. I'll be back on Monday to shovel some Kalua Pork into my face and grab some musubi to snack on later. Perhaps Tuesday I'll try the saimin. For those squeemish about calorie overload, they offer something called "Island Caeser Salad". I can't for the life of me figure out what that might be, but from the picture on the menu there does not appear to be any macaroni involved.
Interestingy, there were two men sitting at a table with another man who appeared to be the manager - and I swear it was the two guys that started L&L. I should have gone over and asked but there was Spam and eggs to be eaten.
Mahalo Waikiki Grill - mahalo!
