I finally tried Plate this weekend. I arrived on Saturday with three friends around noon and found an empty restaurant. Lucky for them, by the time we left, they were half full. We had one of those new servers that is so incredibly nervous, they try to act overly confident to cover it up. Every question we asked him required an awkward 30 second pause while he tried to make up an answer. After inquiring if the tomato soup had cream, he paused and said "Well, no. But it's basically like 95% butter. That's why people like it."
The menu mentioned a fritata of the day. When we asked what the fritata of the day was he said "It's like a flat omlette."
Service aside, I ordered the only veggie option: penne with eggplant, roasted tomato and ricotta salata. All in all: mediocre. A tiny sprinkling of ricotta and the penne was overcooked (it sort of fell apart).
I would come back for drinks. The space itself is pleasant. The food on the otherhand was what I had expected - edible.
