Plant Saffron Now

oldunc | Aug 20, 2011 07:18 AM

Just a reminder to those who forget every year - the time to plant saffron (or any other fall blooming crocus) is now. Saffron is not difficult to grow, but the flowers tend to open on rainy days, which ruin the stamens- be ready to harvest daily for a while. Late summer/ early fall is also the best time in milder climates to plant such shrubby herbs as Oregano, rosemary, thyme etc.
