PlanET Thailand? With Sushi???

Daniel Sonenberg | Jul 12, 1999 09:44 AM

Had dinner Saturday night at Plan Eat Thailand in
Williamsburg, which seemed as full, trendy, and
delicious as ever (their two great dishes: Pad Thai,
and Spicy Squid Salad did not disappoint). However
there are some very distressing things afoot. A posted
announcement, as well as a message on each menu first
of all lists the name as "Planet Thailand"--which I
know was the original name. But why abandon the far
more interesting, humorous, and original name they were
forced to adopt. Also, they are moving around the
corner, and adding a sushi bar and hibachi-style
Japanese cuisine. This strikes me as catastrophic. I
HATE places that are catch-all pan-asian collectives
(Chinese-Japanese being the main offender). Why must
they tamper with a good thing? This is almost
definitely the end, and I'll have to go instead to the
even-more-difficult-to-get-to Thai Cafe. All things
must pass.
