A couple of friends have asked me to help them plan a New York trip and I need your help.I grew up in NYC (Queens) and pride myself on knowing where to eat but my experience is seriously out of date and I don't want to steer them wrong. Here's what they are looking for:The best slice: (I checked out the boards and Joe's on Bleecker and Carmine seems to be the consensus choice. V and T's up by Columbia is a great choice too but that's a bit out of the way ... though I would travel a ways for a truly great slice. Sorry to see Ray's get such lousy reviews!)Good Italian: I had my favorites in Little Italy but I don't trust my memory. Where would you send someone on a medium budget? Deli: My vote goes to Second Avenue Deli, hands down. Even though it's been years, I still trust the place. What do you think?Dim Sum and Chinese (not necessarily the same place): I checked the boards and didn't see any clear consensus favorites. The place at 20 Mott seemed to get good reviews for D/S but didn't someone say it closed? My friends have also asked for recommendations for a Greek pastry shop in Astoria (I know I could find one but don't know where to send them) and a good Japanese restaurant. I know this is quite a list, and I apologize if it's an inappropriately long request, but my friend happens to be high maintenance, if you know what I mean. Money is certainly a factor (no expense account places, please) but I'm a true believer that NYC is full of great choices that don't have to break the bank. Kapece(sp)? Thanks!
