Some background: Like many of you Hounds, I'm a pretty accomplished home cook. The other day, my girlfriend pointed out to me that despite my hobby I've never cooked an all-out dinner for the two of us. And I'd like to wow her a bit with my cooking hobby.
Anyway, I'm going lobstering with my dad later this week, and I'd like to come up with a romantic menu that features my catch while showing off some challenging/impressive cooking techniques. Ideally something that reflects the season (late fall, holidays) and the Californian roots of the main ingredient.
There is a bit of a Catch 22, since dishes that show off a single, high-quality ingredient tend to be relatively simple.
Anyway, I need an appetizer, a main course, sides (starch and vegetables), dessert, and something/things for us to nosh on while I plate, as well as a non-alcoholic beverage pairing (she doesn't drink).
I have just about every cooking gadget imaginable, and I'm totally willing to do elaborate/time-consuming prep. That said, I'd rather not break the bank on too many rare ingredients. Also the lady is not too fond of salads.
