My girlfriend and I are meeting my parents for five days in New Orleans over Thanksgiving weekend. I've been a few times; my parents have been repeatedly; my girlfriend has never been.
Here's the current set of reservations:
dinner - The Grill Room at the Windsor Court Hotel
dinner - Herbsaint
dinner - Stella!
brunch - Commander's Palace
dinner - August
Any of these we should change? Other lunches we should definitely try? We're going for a mix of good food in various styles, rather than traditional New Orleans food.
The Grill Room was booked because it was one of the few places with availability on Thanksgiving, though it looks from comments here and elsewhere like it's actually very good as well. We're thinking of trying to get reservations at Galatoire's on that night; would that be a worthwhile switch?
Any out-of-this-world Italian places we should try?
We land at MSY around 6:45 pm on Wednesday the night before Thanksgiving. (Assuming our flight doesn't run late or get canceled.) Any ideas for places where we can get a table Wednesday fairly late (8 or later) without reservations? We're hesitant to make reservations given the travel uncertainties.
We leave Monday afternoon, so could do a lunch that day also, though we also want to leave some afternoons open for touristy things.
