Nice fellow at the fudge shop on the sponge docks suggested we try Plaka. A Midwesterner 15 years in Tarpon Springs, he claimed to eat there often and prefer it to the many other spots for Greek food. His fudge was terrific so we were off to Plaka.
The restaurant was very busy, but we didn't have to wait for a table. A crusty rye bread with caraway seeds was a good start, and the Greek Salad was very good if not exactly traditional. Pickled beets and chick peas? Souvlaki as a platter with rice and salad, and the souvlaki sandwich were both hits. Lots of fresh tomatoes and onions and a garlicky yogurt sauce along with really good pita style bread. The restaurant looked to me like it needed a good cleaning and repainting, but can't complain at all about the food. Would go back.
Picked up some excellent baklava at Hellas. Also very busy and a lot cleaner looking--may give it a try next time.
