Need place to hang before theatre

Okay, I apologize for using the verb "to hang" but couldn't think of anything else.

Are there are any casual coffee shops in the area with good coffee and outdoor seating near Sidney Harman Hall (I believe this is the Gallery Place metro stop)? I have an awesome book and am looking to settle down for a couple of hours before a play. Anyone familiar with Elysee in west LA? Would love a place like that. Someplace where there is no pressure to play the dutiful and doting consumer, where people go to have coffee, read and relax as opposed to a place with loud get-togethers or pick up joints. And since I'm already being demanding, a place where the food doesn't completely blow would be nice, but not necessary -- though I would appreciate any notes on the food, or even on specific items (i.e. the quiche tastes like horses smell, but the fruit and cheese are delectable fairy finger food). I really don't want to go to Starbucks, but with the weather like it is now I'm not going to lie... Save meeee...
