So, I have recently relocated to Rockville (from DC) and have been looking to replace my favorite pizza place in the district, Vace.
I started with Giuseppi's, because I walk by them often and they sell slices (big plus). I got a cheese pizza delivered, and ordered a slice and ate it on the fly. I want to like their pizza more than I actually do like it. The sauce is nice, kind of tangy, and the sauce:cheese ratio is decent (I prefer heavier on the sauce, lighter on the cheese). The pizza I had delivered was somewhat undercooked (a big negative), and I attributed the odd crust taste/texture to that. But then the slice I bought while running errands wasn't undercooked, but still had the odd crust taste/texture. It almost seemed as though the dough had been shaped with far too much flour on it, and I felt as though I was tasting the flour and it added as sort of chalky taste and vaguely gummy textured coating to the crust. I can't quite describe it. I realize I've said largely negatives about their pizza; it wasn't that bad, it just wasn't all that either. I can't remember if they had a delivery charge, and, if so, what it was.
Decided to try La Pizzeria because I swung into Vignola on the Friday after Isabel. The owner didn't have power, and he had purchased his cup of coffee at La Pizzeria. That was an adequate recommendation to me that they might have decent pizza! Swung in there and got a large pizza (half cheese, half pepperoni) to go. Very good pizza. Although I told him to use extra sauce, easy on the cheese, he didn't note the extra sauce part, and I thought it wanted for some sauce. Otherwise, I was very pleased. I'm eager to see how their pizza travels when I order it for delivery (which is free). I have high hopes for La Pizzeria.
Anybody know of any other places I should try?
