I had a very good slice of cheese pizza in Manhattan on Friday (Patsy's) but I was *almost* too full at that point to really appreciate it. I've been hankering for another slice ever since. I was on the main drag in Pelham doing some errands today and there are numerous pizza joints all along the street. I nipped in and out of a few until I found one with a cheese slice that looked promising. Bought and paid for from Marcello's, I walked across the street to sit down, watch the passing scene, and eat my cheese slice. The crust was as I like it, sort of crackery on the bottom, giving way to the thin layer of chewiness consisting of what it basically is: bread. It bent nicely without breaking, just enough to make it wieldy (is that a word?). Cheese looked fine. I took a bite and I COULDN'T TASTE THE SAUCE. Shoot! No flavor to the sauce at all. I thought that maybe it was too hot, so I waited. Nope. When craving a slice, is any slice better than none at all? Not for!
me. If they'd just get the sauce right, it would be a very respectable slice.
