PIZZA -- Home Cooking Dish of the Month, May 2020

masha | May 1, 202008:10 AM     154

Welcome to the Reporting Thread for our May 2020 Dish of the Month (“DOTM”), PIZZA. There are already many Home Cooking threads on CH about pizza. The distinguishing feature of our DOTM series is -- we don’t just talk about the selected dish – but rather will use this thread to report on pizzas that we’ve actually made during the month of May.

Thanks to all the hounds who participated during the nomination and voting phases for our May 2020 DOTM. To see how we got here, you can go to our Nominations, https://www.chowhound.com/post/dish-m... and Voting threads, https://www.chowhound.com/post/dish-m....

As mentioned, there are already lots of threads on making Pizza on CH. The following just scratch the surface:

You can find additional CH discussions by using the tags Pizza, Pizza Dough, Pizza Sauce, Pizza Stone, and Pizza Steel.

For those looking for a “twofer” by simultaneously cooking a DOTM and COTM, there are a number of Serious Eats recipes for pizza dough and sauce, including, https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2..., https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2..., https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2.... Check out the “Pizza Lab” webpage on Serious Eats for more pizza recipes, https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/t....

This is the Home Cooking community, so we encourage everyone to attempt to make the entire pizza from scratch -- both the dough and sauce. Cheese too if you are really ambitious. But in these strange Coronavirus times, we recognize that local shortages in flour and yeast may present challenges to home-made dough. There are a few suggestions on the Voting thread for alternative ingredients to make a home-made crust if you cannot obtain flour and/or yeast, https://www.chowhound.com/post/dish-m.... And, if all else fails, there is the option of purchasing premade dough from the refrigerator or freezer case in your local grocer (or perhaps even from a local restaurant). In the spirit of DOTM, the main point is to push your personal envelope – if you are an experienced pizza maker, try a different recipe, style, or technique than your standard approach.

So, let’s get going preparing and reporting on the Pizzas that we make during May. If you do report the details of a published recipe, please respect the author’s copyright by either: (a) including a link directly to the source of the recipe, or (b) if no link is available, use your own words to paraphrase and explain the instructions for making the dish (although you may directly quote any list and quantities of ingredients).
