Hands down, it's the happy hour deal offered at the Red House Lounge on Manor, the cool little bar attached to Stortini. Ever since a certain trend making Italian restaurant downtown closed a few years ago, I forgot how much I missed good quality pizza. If you like your pizza the way pizza is meant to be prepared--old world style, thin and crispy with just the right amount of cheese--this is the place for you.The kitchen at Stortini spits out some of the best pizza in Austin. (Definitely the best East of I-35. East Side Pies? So overrated and so overpriced).
Although Stortini doesn't have a wood-fired brick oven like that Warehouse District joint I miss so much, I think they use a pizza stone that approximates the flavor and texture of a wood-fired pizza. They offer five different choices: a margherita pizza, pepperoni pizza, sausage pizza, white pizza, and an artichoke pizza. (They also serve Calzone, which I've been meaning to try if I could only break myself from the grip of their margherita).
Get there before 7 p.m. M-F and you can order any of these for half-price. Six bucks for a large, scrumptious, perfectly cooked margherita pizza loaded with garlic and basil? Yes, please.
Check it out. It's located on Manor Rd just east of I-35, about a block past El Chile.
