Pizza Burger Pie - Anyone know its origin?

K.O. Slow | Dec 12, 2006 09:39 PM

When I was a little kid, my mother would make Pizza Burger Pie. It was my favorite dish bar none. In the last couple years, I have re-embraced this dish. It is very simple to do. The flavors are great for kids. And with a name like Pizza Burger Pie, how could you not like it?

I am curious as to what the origin is. Does anyone know? I am sure it is from some women's magazine in the 70s like McCall's, but I am not sure and wouldn't know where to start.

I've included the recipe. Make it for your kids and you will secretly love it.

Pizza Burger Pie

1 lb. ground beef
2 T. minced onion
1 tsp. garlic salt
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1 C. corn, drained
1 can tomato paste
1 egg
1 T. oregano
1 can biscuits, i.e. Pillsbury biscuits
1 C. (more or less) grated cheddar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Brown meat with onion and seasonings. Drain. Add to corn, tomato paste, egg, and oregano. Press biscuits in the bottom of a greased 9 inch pie plate and form crust. Fill the crust with the meat. Top with grated cheese. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes—until crust is brown. Cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
