I am back in Pittsburgh for a short visit and decided to venture out to Mt Lebanon for dinner at Il Pizzaiolo after reading that it is one of a handful of US pizzerie that have received the official stamp of pizza approval from Italy. Sure enough, my pizza there was excellent (an off-the-menu Fiorentina, made with goat's cheese and spinach)! I would normally have ordered the Margherita DOC (made with mozzarella di buffala, parmesan, tomatoes and basil) but the Fiorentina had been touted elsewhere and seemed worth a try. The prices were, I thought, a bit higher than normal for such a restaurant, though perhaps Mt Lebanon is pricey to start with? Anyway, a recommendable place if you're in the area with a pizza craving.
