Pita Plus

Vital Information | Jan 4, 2002 09:25 AM

In searching for the name of a gourmet store this morning, I happened to run accross the web site to one of my favorite north miami beach/aventura chow places: Pita Plus.

Pita Plus is an Israeli sandwich shop, meaning the shwarma is turkey not lamb, and the service ranges from brusque to hostile. All the sandwiches, including the falafal and the kebabs are great. What makes these sandwiches are the garnish. Super thick and tasty tahini and assorted salads stuffed in the pita. The main ingrediants, are really just excuses for the other stuff. Then, on the side, great hand sliced french fries. Finally, to gild the lily, on each table are huge stainless steel bowls of various pickles and peppers. This is really a 2 diet coke kinda meal.

My only quibble with Pita Plus is that they hold you to a limit in the falafel garnish, unlike the places in Israel where you are allowed to garnish your falafel with as many salads as will actually fit in the bread.

Great donuts during Hanakkah too.
