They have an interesting deal at this BBQ joint on Hwy. 19, Palm Harbor. For $6.95, you get a generous chopped pork (or beef but the server said go pork) sandwich, two sides and a drink. The drink can be a draft beer! Two orders allowed us to try four sides, potato salad, baked beans, Cole slaw and French fries. The sides were surprisingly good--in particular the beans which were not overly sweet. Potato salad featured red potatoes, a pleasant change from the usual white. Cole slaw had a nice vinegar tang. French fries, along with the rest of the meal, were piping hot. Pork was good, a little smoke flavor, lean, came with sauce already on the sandwich and more at the table. Good bun. Nice balance there--not too sweet and not too hot. Only real miss was the corn fritter appetizers, at $3.50, not much taste, hard, and with an awful syrupy raspberry jam like dipping sauce. Sonny's does a better corn fritter.
The decor was an unfortunate combination of casino kitsch and sports bar junk, but clean. Tables and bar only, no comfy booths, concrete floor. Service was just fine. I understand there are three more of these places as one heads north along 19. Did not actually SEE the pit, or smoker, but sure could smell one.
Would be interested in other opinions as to how this place rates beside Fred Fleming, Sonny's, other local spots.
