I've read glowing reviews of the clam chowder at Splash in Pismo on this board and in newspapers.
So I went last Saturday. I waited in line. I ordered the clam chowder, though not in the bread bowl.
I got it, but I don't get it. The clam chowder I was served consisted of a very thick and creamy broth. I guess that is a good thing. But the clams were few and far between and tasteless. There were also a few tiny chunks of potatoes. The overall flavor was creamy, but not clamy.
We also had the Steamers, which is clams served in their shells in a red broth. Those clams had the consistency of rubber and were tasteless.
Please tell me, did I hit Splash on a bad day, am I missing something, or is Splash a big private joke?
P.S. I heard from someone familiar with the scene that Splash has great tri-tip on weekends. Is that so?
