2 years, and 3 cancelled reservations later, i finally got to try PIPERADE last night.

we reservations for 3 @7:30, and were meeting at the bar @ 7pm for a cocktail. i was meeting 2 friends that i hadnt seen in over 5 years. i was the first to arrive. the room was much smaller then i thought, and very comfy cozy. i sat at the bar and the bartender made me a very nice stiff cocktail, but that was the last of him...i sat there by myself for a good 15 minutes waiting for my friends and he never chatted with me at all. ( he bar was NOT busy ) thats fine, whatever...

my friends show up and we finish our drinks and at 7:30 were promptly seated. we had a really cozy table all the way down on the left, near the curtained window.

our server came over and asked for drinks and i told him we were going to order wine and he gave me plenty of time to look at it ( we were chatting it up and the server never rushed us ) finally i asked for help with the wine list because i wasnt really familiar with too much. i asked him for a spanish red, in the $35-$40 range, not peppery or spicy. he choose a wonderful wine that we all loved, and of course i cant remember the name but i do remember "navarra" if that helps.

so my friends and i were talking and talking and our poor server was trying to take our order but we wouldnt shut up. now, usually when i go out with friends we order a bunch of things and all share so i was really looking fwd to tonight to get all different dishes and taste everything. well, my friends werent into that- they wanted an entree each and thats it. no salad, no app, i wasnt happy...AND they ordered the same thing! which was the lamb, which they both said was excellent. i had been eyeing this menu for months, and knew before i got there i was going to get the ham & cheese terraine and the goat cheese filled pepper. which i did- but i thought i would be getting a lot more! so i had those 2 for dinner and LOVED LOVED them. sooo tasty. after we finished, i was definetely still hungry so i took it upon myself to order dessert because i dont think they would have! i got the turron mousse cake & the chocolate amatxi. they were OK. really thought i was going to love the mousse...but it was good, not wonderful. we finished the bottle of wine, had one more round after that...

total with tax & tip = $185

we didnt get up until 11:30pm, and our server never rushed us one bit ever. he was really good.

the overall experience was really good...i had psyched myself up so much for this place, i wish i had gone with my group of friends i went to A16 with last week. i think it would have been a TOTALLY different experience going with different people, and ordering WAY more food to taste :)
