We tried the Piper Club for lunch today. It's a cute little cafe on Beverly near the New Beverly Theater, with a patio for ze French smokers. The menu was odd. A few salads, none of them really main courses (no protein). Four crepes filled with various things -- spinach and mushrooms, or chicken sausage with cheese, or crab and cheese, I think. The combinations seemed a little haphazard. And a few dessert crepes. Service was rather slow considering the place was empty. Breakfast crepes are also available at lunch, so I had a scrambled egg, cheddar and peppers crepe -- the crepe part was good but the eggs were bland and the cheese seemed like American, not Emmental like you would expect a French crepe to have. My friend's spinach crepe was more flavorful, but at $10.45 for one crepe with spinach and a tiny side salad, it better be. Basically between the slow service and the lack of options on the menu, I wouldn't be in a rush to return. I love crepes but I like to be able to choose my ingredients or at least have a choice of traditional fillings like cheese, mushrooms, eggs and ham. I think I'll stick to Farmer's Market for now.
