Pinang - just another mediocre restaurant in Forest Hills

Mabel Rose | Sep 28, 2003 11:55 AM

Since moving to Forest Hills in August, I've used Chowhound to help locate restaurants. But it just might be the case that there are no outstanding restaurants in Forest Hills. I'm not blaming my fellow-chowhounders, I just think it's slim-pickin's when it comes to this area and we're all just trying our best. And it has to be said that you all have helped me tremendously in finding great restaurants in other parts of Queens (such as Sripraphai and Ihawan in Woodside -- both outstanding!!).

Added to the list of disappointing restaurants such as Bann Thai, Peking Duck Forest, Golden Fountain and A & J Pizza (I prefer Sorisi on Continental/Queens, which is probably the best cheese slice I've had in New York -- it's all in the sauce!) is:

PINANG -- Simply mediocre. While the roti canai, chicken satay and steamed Chilean sea bass had some promise, the sauces that accompanied them were much too sweet, bordering on offensive, particularly the "Pinang sauce" that accompanied the fish. It was like sweet Italian tomato sauce. No kick, despite many times asking for everything to be spicy!

My search continues ...
