My pilgrimage to Johnnie's

Just a note to share my experience at Johnnie's today. A friend and I drove about 45 minutes from Evanston, getting hungrier and increasingly annoyed at the construction/traffic, and arrived to see the infamous line out the door. Some families and couples were eating at the outside tables, so we got quite a sight/smell as we were waiting.

I got my sandwich sweet, hot, and dipped (wet?), and a small Italian ice. Service was a lot friendlier than I expected (after reading some really old posts with a Soup-Nazi comparison) and incredibly efficient. We ate standing up at the counter, juices covering our hands, and didn't even think to talk to each other until we were done with the sandwich. We just ate. And ate. And searched for napkins to wipe off our faces.

I may have a lot of CH spirit, but a minuscule/non-existent student budget -- and no car, though maybe that's a good thing considering gas prices now -- really limits my options in your fair city. I'm returning to my hometown (NYC) soon, but now I can say it was worth the four-year wait. Cheers!
