Pigalle on NYE

With several friends in town for New Year's Eve, finding a mid-price restaurant for seven of us was a bit of a challenge. I'm very pleased to report that Pigalle did a lovely job and everything we had for our meal was superb. Service was also very good -- i find that service for tables larger than four seem to undo even reliable servers -- but except for a lag in getting our check taken care of, they did a great job. I understand that it was a limited version of their regular menu (it was still a la carte though, not prix fixé.) Plenty of under-$30 on the wine list, and the cocktails were also very good.

For appetizers, we had escargot (plumper than usual, not chewy at all, got a thumbs-up from even those who initially balked at snails), gravlax, proscuitto w/figs, broiled oysters rockefeller (not overcooked! yay!); most of us got either steak frites or pork chop as an entreé. Sorbet and the absolutely fabulous brownie desert (shared by several) followed. For those of you who prefer larger portion sizes: you will not go hungry. (In the future, i expect my roommate and i will be sharing an entreé and a couple of apps as our meal.)
