Pie'n'Tuna?? Report plus apology

Will Owen | Jan 10, 2006 06:30 PM

First off, I had a lunch date with my old school buddy at Caribbean Bistro on South Lake - I had enjoyed my supper there, thought perhaps they'd be better as a lunch place...but our date was for 11:30, and I found to my great annoyance that they didn't open until noon! Well, sorry, but 11:30 is pushing it for me, so we said The heck with it and went around the corner to re-visit Pie'n'Burger after about two years' absence. Sat at the counter, contemplated being REALLY bad and getting that delicious cheeseburger, but settled on the grilled tuna and potato salad. I had remembered both items as being superb; what I had MISremembered was that the tuna is NOT the "tuna melt" I've been raving about on this board at all. *NO* cheese, just a huge wad of delicious if goopy tuna salad and a slab of iceberg lettuce on falling-apart grilled bread. So I apologize for my memory's unfortunate tendency to get creative on me.

Anyway, if you loathe mayonnaise don't get this, nor the potato salad. If your tastes correspond with mine, however, you'll love both, almost to the point of forgetting the cheeseburger even exists. Again, as I remembered (accurately this time), the potatoes were perfectly cooked, neither gluey nor mooshy, and the dressing was just a little tangier than I make it, with some sweet relish mixed in, but not too much. That and as much coffee as I wanted was a very big lunch for me, and worked out to right at eleven bucks with tax and tip. Not a bargain, maybe, but I did not wish we'd gone to In-N-Out instead...
