I have always wanted to visit Lago di Orta so we stayed the night at Cucchiaio di Legno https://www.ilcucchiaiodilegno.com/ and ate at the restaurant.
The seasonal tasting menu for €32/person was the perfect welcome to Piemonte. I wrote down all the courses but the most memorable tastes for me were the house-made cured pork and salami platter, the lemon risotto with grana and the melt in your mouth, veal stew. There was a cacao pasta course with cingale. They serve family style which kept me from over eating because I could just put a nice small taste on my plate. There were “grano arso” (burnt wheat) bread sticks that I loved too. There were 3 desserts, first was a pear and apple sorbet over chocolate crumble, the second was a plate of three: ricotta cake, coffee semifreddo and chocolate salami with marzipan cream. The third was small squares of a rustic apple tart and something they called "pasta madre" made from sweetened bread dough.
We drank a 2016 La Ca Nova Barbaresco for €30.
