Hello,

My girlfriend and I will be traveling in Italy and France for a wedding in a few weeks. We plan to stop in Piedmont on our way to the Lakes Region and I was hoping for some advice. I have read a number of these great posts and am getting overwhelmed. Ideally we would like to spend our 2.5 days/2 nights exploring the small towns and vineyards of the area while eating some excellent local cuisine and enjoying the wine. My initial research has me thinking staying near Alba is our best bet. My first question is whether we should look to stay at a place where we can walk into town for food/drink or if we should stay in the country where town is only a quick drive (we have a car). At a budget of ~$250 and under for two nights I have seen a lot of options. Is there a particular place someone would recommend? We would love a charming old property, and a pool would be a huge plus. During the day we plan to get in the car and visit wineries as well as the towns/castles nearby. Are there a few places we shouldn't miss? And finally, what two places should we choose for dinner? We appreciate local places that are not too hung up on presentation but more so on flavor and quality (which I imagine is found at many places). Again, I have found the previous posts to be helpful but with only a few days it was tough to figure whats best. I appreciate any help offered.

Thanks!
Mike
