Pie-Tanza report - Tasty but not worth the $35 . . .

Based upon the generally good reviews of this new pizza joint, my wife and I got takeaway pies and dessert this past weekend. The verdict: tasty but $35?? Let go of my arm.

We got the tomato basil pie and a pie with roasted garlic and carmalized onions. Both were good although the crust suffered a bit from cooling during the short ride home. I'll comment that the garlic topping was very garclicky - a very good thing, mind you!

For dessert we treated ourselves to a generous slice of tiramisu, that I liked plenty but the wife and my sister found to be tasting too much of liquer. My palate didn't pick up on it though. We also got a passable cannoli; passable because it was premade so the shell was a bit soggy from the cream. Still, it was good.

Now my rant. $35 for two 12" pies and two pieces of dessert? That's ridiculous. Each pie starts at $9 and they charge $1.30 per topping. Perhaps I'm missing something, so someone please point it out to me. I'm as much a fan of good New York style pizza and am a believer in the cliche "You can't get a decent slice of pizza south of Jersey", but I don't know that these ridiculous prices justifies another trip.

I'm tempted to go again and try a sammich. The selections looked good but they'd better knock my socks (and jockies too for those prices) off if Pie-Tanza's going to be a regular place for us.
