Pie & Pastry Bible: Where to start?

I'm the new owner of a copy of "The Pie and Pastry Bible" by Rose Levy Beranbaum, and I confess I'm overwhelmed. I'm a handy baker (cakes, bread, other desserts) but have very little experience in the pie/tart department.

Where should I start? What are some greatest hits from this tome?

The photos are beautiful, but quite intimidating!
