One of my favorite post-Thanksgiving rituals -- apple pie for breakfast on Friday morning. Who else is indulging?
Thinking about having pumpkin or chocolate pecan pie for breakfast but they weren't refrigerated overnight so I'm debating whether it's safe or not...
I don't refrigerate pie. Should I? I never have. I'm not dead yet!
Fruit-filled pies can be held at room temperature but those that are custard filled -- i.e., like pumpkin, containing milk/cream and eggs -- should be refrigerated.
Had apple pie with whipped cream at 6:30 am. Can't beat it!
Absolutely! It's my ritual after Thanksgiving, only it's my mom's pumpkin pie for breakfast. It's so good that, for her thanksgiving dinner, she makes an individual pie for every family to take home.
Pie in the morning is my favorite, and generally speaking morning is perhaps my favorite time for baked goods, cakes etc. Breakfast of champions!
a friend's gluten-free apple crisp with a dollop of cream fraiche. and a hunk of flourless carrot cake for lunch.
I would have, but the last two pieces went home with its maker and her daughter … and it wasn't a fruit pie anyway, it was walnut. However, I still have about a pint of the eggnog ice cream I made to go with it. That will console me nicely!
Cherry pie for breakfast. Bourbon pecan pie for lunch. Pizza pie for dinner in a few hours.
Had pumpkin pie and a pizzale. Tried to rationalize it, as I did not have any dessert yesterday, but that really would not have made a difference!
My family of 5 has 4 pies each TG - each of the 3 kids designs a pie and I have to have my apple crumb pie or apple crisp. This year, in addition to apple crisp, sweet potato meringue, chocolate-hazelnut silk and brown butter chess pie with mixed nuts...
So - we always have lot of leftover pie and the kids look forward all year to pie for breakfast.
Hey - look at what IHOP has been advertising as "breakfast". Caramel pancakes - come on - pie isn't that bad.
Pie + custard sauce + ice cream = 4 food groups
Not apple pie but I sure did make the sweet potato pie (filling only) disappear. I'm not nearly as gaga for the crust.
I never used to eat pie crust until I started making my own. Sometimes I regret ever finding that recipe.....
What's your secret to a great tasting pie crust? My attempts rarely wow me.
I had almost given up before I stumbled across this one, it's so easy. Gets a lot of mentions here. http://www.food.com/recipe/vodka-pie-... Light and flaky, or at least it tastes like it is ;-)
Tapioca in the filling. everyone hates a soggy crust.
Just to let you know, I didn't suffer any dire consequences for eating pieces of pumpkin and chocolate pecan pies that had been at room temperature for at least 22 hours. I did, however, put them in the refrigerator at tjatvtime. The pumpkin pie had begun to sweat a little but still tasted great :-)
I just finished a slice of Sour Cream Apple Pie for breakfast. No hot coffee, caffeine is a no no for me and decaf just does not do it for me.
Is it considered breakfast if you woke up at 5:00 a.m., had a slice of apple pie, and then went back to sleep?
yesterday banana cream, today sour cream cheese cake, tomorrow pumpkin then onto pecan - all of these have valid breakfast elements I feel no shame
Heard on a call-in TV show: "The key lime pie isn't going to eat itself this morning!".
Oooh this reminds me I still have apple pie in the fridge, and was just wondering what was for lunch. Score!
My husband and four boys would eat pie for breakfast every day if they could! Personally I can't eat anything sweet first thing in the morning. I'm more of an eggs and toast with coffee kind of a gal.
As nice as pie for breakfast is, the real post-Thanksgiving treat is stuffing for breakfast!
Bumping this thread - apple crostada for this morning's breakfast. Who else ate pie this morning?
Seven years later: Adhering to my annual day-after-Thanksgiving tradition, once again, I had apple pie for breakfast this morning. Hubby had a slice of pumpkin pie. Who else had pie this morning?
It’ll be more like brunch, but a slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream is on the menu. Always the first leftovers I eat.
I had a slice of pumpkin pie with real whipped cream. Delicious!
I also have a slice of leftover cake the day after my birthday--another tradition that I staunchly adhere to and highly recommend.
Me me me! Had to work in jail on Friday morning, but brought my apple pie (nuked) ala mode, for my breakfast. Set it atop my frozen bottle of water and it made it! Apple pie, ice cream and hot coffee. Made going to work much more tolerable.
No pie here but seeing that the young people have invented Avocado Toast (which I thought sounded interesting), this morning I piled the leftover guacamole on some whole wheat toast with an under-layer of Concord grape fruit spread. Best breakfast I ever ate.
We added our homemade granola and yogurt to the apple dessert. Yummy breakfast!
