The Pickle Guys -- Essex Street

Dancin' Cook | Jun 28, 2002 02:23 PM

This is a new pickle store on Essex Street just below Grand. The guy at the counter told me they used to work for Gus' Pickles. They have a full array of pickles and kraut, including pickled celery, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes at the moment. Also olives and herring. Their products are Kosher, and they ship. I bought a quart of the sour pickles, and mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! They are crispy and garlicky and the pickleness of the pickle stays with you and makes you happy for a long time. Also got some creamed herring. The flavor was nice but the sauce kind of runny -- Russ & Daughters remains my favorite for that. But the pickles are great! They are open Sunday morning through Friday afternoon.
