A few weeks ago, another poster asked for restaurant recommendations for after attending the US Tennis Open. Someone recommended Piccola Venezia. I was very interested since we too attended the US Open this weekend. Since I've seen PV so highly recommended by everyone on this board, never having been, we decided to try it after going to the Open this past Friday. I don't remember the Chowhounder's name who posted directions for me when I asked for them, but, THANKS! The directions were perfect. It only took 10-15 minutes for us to get there from the stadium. We got there around 7pm'ish. As we were walking in, I was concerned that we were underdressed, since we were dressed for attending the games, t-shirts, crop pants, sneakers, etc. But the maitre'd greeted us with a big, friendly smile, and immediately sat us (& not at a crappy table to hide us, but at a lovely table), and chatted with us for about 5 minutes. We were given complimentary vegetable risotto to eat as we looked at the menu. It was wonderful & I'd order it as an entree it was so good. The items on the menu all looked great. It was hard to narrow down our choices, and the evenings specials sounded great too. We ended up with salads, whole, grilled branzino-terrific!!!, osso buco with big, plump, perfectly cooked gnocci, with the osso buco sauce. Now neither one of us are big gnocci eaters...there were none left on the plate when we were done. Somehow, my fork had a mind of it's own & kept going over for "just one more" on my partner's plate. We also had a side of steamed spinach/garlic and I had a side of pasta. All I can say is-Go to PV. I wish we lived closer cause then we'd be regulars. My goal is to work my way through the other 10 or so items I also wanted to try. Service was good, and the customer service was terrific. The maitre'd also chatted with us on the way out. Thanks Chowhounders for the great recommendation.
