Well, tonight was their first official day of operation - following a few soft openings. It would be unfair to point out any glitches this early in the game, but on the plus - I had a very fun dining and delicioso experience.
It reminded me of the first omakase I had at Matsushisa a few decades back when it was so origina and fresh A whole new kind of food. Picca made me feel the same way. Matushisa, well, they're a little stuck and relatively dry, but this place has all the juice. It's less formal that Matsuhisa, and feels like culinary party. Guests adjacent to each other were enthusiastic and sharing information back and forth. It was great food vibe. So many things passed by that looked good -that you wonder if the eight things you ordered was enough. You'll just have to come back.
Some things were executed okay (but still worked, most things did work) The sea bass, the unagi, the cebiche was great (as expected.). Santa Barbara shrimp seemed pricey at $14 for two shrimp, but it's a pricey protein. Loved that too. The portions are generous too.
The uni shooter was too tart and tangy heavy for the delicate flavor of the urchin - which I could barely taste. Someone let me know if it changes.
I look forward to going back.
